@FilthyItai It's not irony, it's real, you are a racist. You want a system where it's illegal, or at least that there is much pressure that nobody will do it, for a scholarship to target poor white kids. This is $1k scholarship and it's on national cable news! Meanwhile, there are multi-million dollar endowment funds for helping black kids, but that isn't newsworthy.

If we had scholarships that target poor white kids, this wouldn't be such a big problem (and the problem is much larger than you think). I also saw "kids" without a drug arrest completely barred from higher education because of lack of funding. I think that any scholarship to help anyone is a good thing.

@FilthyItai There is more than one type of inequality in the world. Class inequality is alive and well. There are privileged white kids who need no help and I really couldn't care less about them, there are also privileged black kids who need no help, and I couldn't care less about them either. The gov,, in all it's wisdom, has created a situation where a single marijuana arrest cuts you off from all gov aid. I used to work at a drug treatment center and I saw many white kids (cont)

This was just a poorly conducted interview on an already tense subject. The white guy gets repeatedly interrupted, they only give the black guy one chance to offer his input, and by the ending it's clear MSNBC is for the white only scholarships.

For richer or poorer, everyone's experiencing problems. We all have our versions of the ghetto, we all have financial instability, we're all dealing with high gas prices and a tough economy. Banks in particular discriminate against everyone. My thoughts.

Because whites are already the privileged group in society due a long history, and current situation of racial inequality. As a result of this racial inequality past and present, blacks hold a disadvantaged position in society to the point where they have substantially fewer opportunities than whites. Black only scholarships exist to combat that racial inequality and to move towards offering the same amount of opportunities for blacks that whites already have.

Well it would never happen where the words were changed around from white to black and black to white, because whites have a much easier time getting into schools than blacks due to the reality of a society that embodies institutional racism that both disadvantages blacks and advantages whites.

I find it very ironic that you label me a racist, despite the fact that all I am striving for is for all people, black or white, to have the same opportunities. Black only scholarships exist to tackle this inequality of opportunity. Whereas you want to support a system in place that gives more opportunities to whites at the expense of blacks. You do not feel that blacks deserve the same opportunities that white people enjoy. So YOU, my friend, are the racist. Truth hurts.
