Maia Kushick is not an EXPERT on this topic!
Do your research, just don't ramble on about what you THINK was going on back then.
"Learn how women applied makeup in the 1950s" Yeah... not from watching this video!

Only pinup models wore red lipstick??? Okay.
Red was a very popular colour in the 1950s. Ever heard of Revlon Red? Cherries In The Snow?

correction to the "Expert" but I have an Esthetician License and have majored in Theatrical and Historical Makeup. Do you even know what your talking about? Your wrong in this vid. Red Lips were not by any means considered "fluzy"..and only the teens went with a more natural look because of school.

No... I'd say the very late 50s and well into the 60s especially, was when pastels and natural looks were in. The 40s and 50s had similar make-up styles. I'd say the 40s were a tad bit more natural looking though, as they mainly paid attention to the lips and in the 50s it was about the eyes and lips.
I would disagree with you on your rendering of 1950's makeup. Young girls and teenagers were the ones who most often wore more "natural" makeup, but for grown women red WAS in, especially red lipstick, as well as the signature thick upper lid liner. I know of multiple sources which point to neutral shades, but only when teens are concerned. Every women's magazine such as Ladie's Home Journal and Good Housekeeping shows thousands of images of women wearing red lipstick and black eyeliner.

If you ever have an opportunity to look up some old advertisements from the 1950's or view a magazine or two, you will see what I mean. There WAS a great emphasis on both femininity and sexuality/sensuality, portrayed by beautiful and often curvaceous hairstyles, shapewear like girdles and all-in-ones, and very often full, red lips. It was a different kind of "allusive" sexuality than we see today, but it was definitely present and everyday women partook in all of it, just not young teens.
