It remembers how hard the accelerator is pressed, how hard the brakes are applied, etc. That's why I say about they can tell whether or not the car has been abused. Not if it was taken off-road. I used my words very carefully. Next time read them carefully.

Either way, the rental agency's not going to charge you because you floored it and hit the brakes or pulled X amount of G's.
That's like saying "don't floor it, don't hit the brakes hard, don't turn sharp at high speed, because the ecu will know".
Of course the ecu has its processes but they won't charge you based on the ecu only.
Trust me, I just had an Aveo for a rental and I drove it to the max like all rentals, as long as I broke nothing they didn't say anything.
