My mom's friends took me to see the daughter of another friend who does pansori (판소리), which is a type of traditional Korean music where there's one singer who tells a story through song and one drummer who accompanies him/her. I've seen it live once before in Atlanta and once in a Korean movie, and it's so cool!

The singer's name is Lee Jah-ram (이자람) and was really good. She couldn't have been more than 30 years old. The "story" she told was really, really long--It took them almost 2 hours to do about 6 pages of the script and there was 6 more pages left, so a lot of people had to leave during the intermission including us.

  • Just to tell you that Pansori is a vocal song played with drums. To do this you have to practice shouting and screaming because you don't use your normal voice and you must sing extremely high notes. I think the opening theme of Dae Jang Geum is in style of pansori.

  • I like this!
