Learn how to properly construct a tripod for use in wilderness survival. This can be useful for smoking meats, hanging pots over a fire, making backrests, trap components, primitive shelters, and many other things.

  • Isn't it harder to make than you need? I remember seeing a video with siberians natives mounting a tepee fashion shelter based on a tripod, poles and cariboo skin. But for the tripod, they just lashed three saplin poles togethers with only one loop going over the three poles, made from leather. It worked well too!

  • @Rhinoch8 Yeah, that is a good point... this is more of a bomb-proof set up so to speak, but the simple method could work fine too... especially if conservation of cordage is an important factor. But, for anything that requires a strong lashing, I'd prefer this technique... thanks for your input!

  • Excellent video -- clearly and precisely demonstrated. When setting up the tripod, I would suggest crossing the outer poles underneath the center pole; this method causes a portion of the load to be supported from the wood-to-wood contact of the outer poles. Setting up the center pole underneath the outer poles places nearly all of the load on the lashing instead of the poles.

    Great work!

  • Why do you American always talk so much?
