I agree that there are lots of unfunny male comedians out there. I can write! you can write! many people can write, it doesn't mean that what we write is any good, take dinnerladies for an example. And as for serious acting, well wood by name, wooden by nature. Its all just uncultivated lowbrow bbc shite which you obviously spend most of your life belting one out over.

I doubt spencer382 disputes that Victoria Wood can play the piano and does some straight acting nor that she is not clever or can write (in fact nor do I). What he is disputing is that she is funny.

There are lots of men out there who claim to be comedians but who are just not clever enough and are not funny at all - pathetic gags aimed at getting cheap laughs.

I have to say that I am a fan of Victoria Wood, not so much French and Saunders, but definitely Victoria - she is clever and can write, play the piano and sing and has done some good straight acting too. Not many around who can do that these days. Observations, not smutty.

Comedienne is a word created to appease women and to give them the impression that they can be funny. We all know this is not true and that it is easier to create a word for a female 'comedian' than to have to put up with all of their whining. Everyone knows that their efforts don't count for shit.
