Landing at Fort Simpson, North West Territory, Canada, Rwy 13, CYVQ, cockpit views forward on downwind, base, final approach and landing at the end of the seventh leg of our Western Canadian Arctic Flying Holiday, filmed by my wife from the cockpit of our Pacific Flying Club C-172XP, C-GIWM. Century 92.
...
We only stayed here for less then an hour!!!
...
We discovered to our horror that inspite the presence of the refueling base's pump attendent right there in front of us at the Community Aerodrome Radio Station, he still wanted a $75 Call Out Fee to walk out to my aircraft to refuel it.
...
To add insult to injury, the cost of his fuel was through the roof ($2.50 plus a liter) which is about .80c then most other places in the Arctic were charging.
...
... and this was the NWT Government Aerodrome???. This airport was built because the Fort Simpson Island strip down in the MacKenzie River valley often got fogged in during the fall and spring. So the NWT Gov't build an all weather airport up on the hill tops.
...
To top it off there were NO tie down spots available for transit or visiting aircraft so we had to fight for 30 minutes to screw our tie downs into the very rocky ground in the grassy apron off of the main apron.
...
Well, I will not stand still for being gouged, so we untied our aircraft, reloaded everything and made a short 12 minute flight down to Fort Simpson Island, were the hospitality was warm and welcoming, the hotel was just a 15 minute leisurely stroll from our tie downs. The people down at Fort Simpson Island Airport were just great!!!
...
So I advise stay away from CYFS unless you want to pay outrageous prices for aircraft fuel, pay outrageious call out fees when the attendent is right there on the airport and have to fight forever to try and tie down your aircraft.
...
CET4 down in the valley has to be the friendlist little airport in the NWT. More about them next video.
