Flite Test - DIY 2.4Ghz Radio Upgrade - FLITE TIP

In this episode we dive into an old Futaba 72mHz transmitter to give it new life! Watch as Josh, Josh and David summarize what it takes to do this. Afterwards, if you feel motivated, you can dig out your old transmitter to start hacking, drilling, and soldering with David's how-to tutorial below. And if you're still looking for more, we added a link to Paul Bitmatta's step-by-step video below that!

  • where there 2 receiver in the plane? one for the 72mHz mode and another for 2.4Ghz?

  • @keek1997 The plane only had the 2.4ghz RX. We were just switching it off, and then back on to check the re-link time.

  • 4:30 is pretty creepy :D

  • I thought FrSky was pronounce "Free-Sky".

    I actually prefer Frisky though.

  • So all you need to do is to cut the wire that goes in to de turnigy 9x module and just plug the frsky module in?

Whats the difference between V1 and V2?

  • This was very informative but I would like to find out if my old futaba 5 channel is upgradable to 2.4ghz

    Is it possible?

  • Ahaha I understand what he was saying at 4:30 - he was saying that its so simple to solder red to red black to black etc yet so many people muck it up and solder negative to positive and blow out their systems...

  • David looks like okay face :D

  • Hi, what FrSky would I order for my Turnigy 9X for two way? as well as my Lendershobby type of Fly Sky? I have one each of them. Thank you

  • Can someone tell me if the Futaba 4YF 2.4GHz -NOT the FM one- remote has a nice range? (At least 600 ft) I don't know anything about remotes, so if all 2.4 remotes have like a mile, then I'm sorry. :P

Just on the side, if it isn't a good remote, what is a 4 channel one for $100 or less? Thanks.

  • i have the same radio and i love it!

  • Tanks!

  • i am on the fence if i should get this. i have a futaba T7CHP and have had frsky before

  • Great upgrade. Thx for the vid guys!
