Me and my BMW 325 E30 doing some drift practice. First attempt to drift on a nearly dry surface on a parking lot (this tarmac sucked, was extremely rough). Stock 325 E30 except for lowering springs and a 4,27 LSD...well, whatever is left from the limitation...have to get new plates ASAP.

  • Nice job keeping it going with that kinda power. I'm positive I couldn't get my 323i to do that. They don't have an LSD do they? (kind of surprising, but I know mine doesn't and it's an E36).

  • Thanks man :-)

I fitted an LSD to the 325, otherwise it would not drift the way it did in this video :-))) The 325 with bad tires (old winter tires were fitted while shooting that video) is very easy to drift, the 170 hp are enough to get it sideways even on dry and rough tarmac. Quite a funny car I have to admit.

But not enough power for high speed drifts...searching for an M3 E36 at the moment (want to take part in the IDC/IDS drift series) but finding a good one is not that easy...

  • an M3 would be awesome. Still expensive over here though (NZ). Still looking at 25k for an E36. You could buy a lot of car for that.

I can't believe the other 3 series don't come with an LSD. My 1990 Miata came with one, yet my 97 323i didn't, and the retail for one of those was 80k back in it's time.

Mine is an auto, so 170hp doesn't feel like enough to do ANYTHING, but I'm sure the manual would make it a much nicer car to drive.

  • 25k NZ Dollars - that would be around 10.000 euros - thats really a lot I have to admit.

Here in Germany, the "homeland" of the M3 it`s way cheaper, you get good ones for around 6000 Euros.

But it STILL IS a quite expensive car and the engine is not really that solid.

The E30 did not have an LSD except for the M3. You could order it for every E30, even for the 316i but it was never standard equipped with it.

All of the E36 could be fitted with an LSD but it is very rare in the E36.

  • e30 is and es came with factory lsd diffs. E28 diffs or even e36 ti will fit e30 if you change the diff cover nad output shafts.

Why dont you just do a m30 swap in your e30. It would be super cheap and I can do 3rd gear drifts in dry np. Although im nowhere near as good as you.

  • Yeah! Good example! Watching people playing golf sucks. But trying to hit the ball rocks :-) although it really is far more difficult than drifting...went to a driving-range a few years ago and it really is pretty hard to make the ball the direction you want him to go. Not to talk about getting him to fly a long distance...I better stick with drifting...FAR more fun :-)

  • yes it is fun, but boring to watch:) It's kinda like golf, fun to do boring to watch

  • yeah, you`re right. It really IS boring watching someone going round and round (although it REALLY is not easy for me to keep the car drifting and it is still a lot of fun to keep the car sliding). Yesterday I had another "run" on the same "track" trying to change direction while trying to keep up drifting - not an easy thing to do I have to admit. I need more training to post a vid of tis new level of drifting :-)

  • you should try changing direction, 30secs of watching you go in circle gets kinda boring
