@highfidelity1st The surface applied can have any characteristic you want, at any level of porosity. The reason this process was invented was for rebuilding the main and rod journals for large sea vessel engines. The kind that are inline 10 cylinders where the crank is 40' long and the cylinders are the displacement of an elevator car. A buddy of mine had cast iron built back up in an aluminum dirt bike cylinder. You can even have blends of non ferrous alloys coated on just about anything.

machine some centers on that puppy, funny tool one end, stick some steady rests on it, grind and BLEND TO SIZE!!! probably a pump shaft?

@highfidelity1st Yes they can. I would advise getting Tungsten Carbide sprayed. It is a little tougher than chrome carbide and if ground and polished properply would meet or excel any runouts the bearings on the shaft originally had. Making the crank more durable. Chrome carbide is mainly used for seals but can be used for bearings in some applications.

Hi can crank journals that run needle rollers on the bearing surface be sprayed and ground to size, and will the surface be tough enough ?. The crankshaft in question is for a four cylinder Outboard which has a rusted bearing surface
It's cool to see the supersonic shock diamonds in the flame.

@FJoeForty I've heard Ford has started to use this to coat the cylinders of aluminum blocks, eliminating the need for drop-in cylinders liners.
