This love song describes love as a discovery of the beloved on a journey home from a whole day of working. Tired and thirsty, a young man passes by a wellspring by the side of the mountain. While drinking the water there he saw a beautiful young woman and he describes his feelings of love for her as like the water from the flowing spring, so contagious and attractive to his senses...that he cannot contain...but needs to express....

Here is my personal attempt for it's English Translation:

Sa higad sinang bukid (By the side of that mountain)
Sa bato naga-ilig ang matin-aw nga tubig (Crystal clear water flowing from the stone)
Sa dako kong kauhaw ako ang naghapit (In my great thirst I dropped by)
Kag akon nga ginbatyag ang kabugnaw sang tubig (And I relished to drink the fresh water)
Didto ko s'ya nakit-an (There I saw her)
Larawan sang kagayon (A portrait of beauty)
Nagbatyag sang kauhaw ining dughan nakon ( My heart felt the thirst)
Katulad sang tuburan ( Like the spring)
Ang gugma nga dalitan (Love is contagious)
Sinang tubig naga ilig nga dili ko mapunggan (Outpouring water I can't contain)

  • Hi. I am working on Ilonggo Folk song, if you do have more of this, please let me know. your reply will be highly apperciated thanks.

  • @astonishme Glad to know you are working on Ilongo Folk song. So far this is the only one I got. Try to contact Counselor Victor Maroma of Cabatuan, Iloilo for a written copy of Ilongo Folk Songs. His late father has a collection of those. Let me know if you need more help. Goodluck and God bless you!

  • @polos4th Thanks for pointing out the lyrics I missed. Please check again the video info which I just updated and corrected. It will be great if you can also create a video of the same song with exact guitar accompaniment. I am presently contemplating of writing a spiritual book based on they lyrics of the song. I'm sorry for my late reply! Kamusta lang kanimo kag bendisyonan ikaw sang Mahal nga Diyos!

  • Papu ganda naman ng kanta mo ah! I love you!- Kiel

  • @aalisah444 Thank you Isah & Kiel. I sang that song while taking a walk and a pause to take a view of the mountain, to ease moments of missing Mamu so much, during that time when I was still all by myself here in McCloud. It is said that love can do the impossible. I am not that good in singing, but the love in my heart for Mamu Marl made me sing that beautiful Ilongo love song. We love you both & our family! God bless us always and keep us safe.

  • @ginsengrose Thanks for your message. I don't have the original version of this song. I just memorize it in my mind and heart being an Ilongo. I need to do some research with the mabuhay singers. If in case I can find the original version I will upload it and let you know. Cheers and blessings to you!

  • In the town of Cabatuan, Iloilo where I grew up since I was 8 months old, the river of life keeps flowing, the waters of the Tigum, and they came from the springs - "tuburan" of the not so far flung Maasin mountains...When I was small and playful, we used to go there with my playmates, almost every day...to bathe and enjoy walking by its sides, collecting spiders for spider game fight on a coconut stick and when its time to go home to pass by the guava trees & pluck ripe fruits to munch...
