Despite having watched every triple crown race since 1970 I am not a horse race fan ( go figure) . I've never even bet on a race.......I watched this race in 1973 & I've watched this documentary a hundred times.....I STILL WEEP watching SECRETARIAT.

Secretariat not only set the Belmont Stakes record. If you take the splits, his time over the first 9.5 furlongs was better than his record-setting time in the Preakness Stakes. His time over the first mile and a quarter is faster than his record setting time in the Kentucky Derby. After he crosses the finish line, he coasts another 1/8 of a mile. His time for the mile and 5/8 distance would also be a record if officially recorded.

I saw this as a teen on TV like most Americans and had no knowledge of horse racing. But no spectator or audience had to know anything beyond common sense to know that this horse was special beyond words. Every few years I watch replay it and it inspires as almost nothing else except my Faith and I dare say God blew wind behind that horse that day.

I believe Secretariat was one of the top 5 greatest athletes of all time - he's up there with Ali, Jordan, Silva, Tiger - brilliant !

I loved it when in the movie some one made an off the cuff remark and SEcratariet almost peed in this guys boot. Also Shams owner was so angry that Secratariet was just too fast for Sham, and he said something to Penny Cherney and she said yes, we housewifes do something(I just can't remember at rhis time) I really liked it when Penny Cherney said to Shams owner, I agree your horse ran an excellent second.
