Two sequences from Korngold's magnificent score to the Errol Flynn swashbuckler THE SEA HAWK (1940) conducted by the composer.
As the music begins, Queen Elisabeth I (Flora Robson) leaves the throne room to have a 'private audience' with Capt Geofrey Thorpe (Flynn) and meets his pet monkey who is making mischief with her powder puff!
In the following scene, Thorpe meets Dona Maria (Brenda Marshall) in the Rose Garden, and their hesitant conversation is accompanied by Korngold's ravishing love music. She may not realise that she is in love with Thorpe - but Korngold's music leaves us in no doubt. The lovely violin solos are by Louis Kaufmann. Restored from original acetates. Korngold conducts the Warner Bros Studio Orchestra, February 1940.
