feeding 4 more abandoned baby gouldians ---again--- ,
did you notice the reflective markings around the mouth ? they are both reflective and bioluminescent they help the parents to find the mouth of the baby in dark tree hollows where they nest in the wild, the baby bird will instinctively wave and bob its head while calling at the slightest disturbance.
The sacks that apear in the necks is the babys crop, they fill with food, where it is stored , muscles, bacteria, and in some species small stones help grind and churn the food till it moves into the digestive track
This year I seem to be fostering one clutch after the other, my breeders seem to like mating sitting and hatching but have no interest on the babies once they hatch, weird,
I know I'm going to get comments but it was hard for me to record and feed at the same time so, yes, I did make a mess and, yes, I sort of over fed, but through a viewfinder it is sort of hard to gauge. they are fine so relax,
the gouldian ( rainbow) finch is the most beauty you can get out of a small bird and these will all end up hand tame .

  • at about what age do the color feathers start coming in?

  • @j23siempre at about 6 months, the first molt, and then every molt after the colors get brighter.

  • hi dear- will you tell me copmlete process.from 1day to adult for feeding the offsprings

  • @DamnKazuya- very labor intensive, I use "exact" handfeeding formula , the firs 24 to 48 hours after hatch I only give a drop or two of water till the yolk sack absorbs then I feed every two hours around the clock using a toothpick till they get big enough to eat out of a syrninge them I gradually increase to time between feedings while thicking the formula. I feed till the crop is full but not steached out then feed again when it is almost empty allowing a complete empty once every 24 hours.

  • do you not use bengaleese or society finches to rear the babies???

  • @birdman404 I have societys and used them in the past with great success , but none are sitting at this time, mine wont foster unless they are on eggs or have babies already.
