The video shows the RMC type D (engine #1), with the improved head design. It's shown running on a combination of the Rowland & regular (Lenoir) non-compression cycles. The engine switches cycles when the ignition timing is changed & will run as a hybrid in between.

Original non-compression engines were used in the mid 1800's to compete with the steam engine, which was the most widely used power at the time. They were around before the 4 stroke engine cycle had been invented, & with no compression stroke, they usually have a horrible power to weight ratio.

  • I'm curious as to the fuel, Is there a check ball in the fuel tank?

  • @gritzschke, This engine doesn't back fire out the intake so there's no need for a check ball or valve in the fuel tank. If you look at some of my other videos, a few of the "Loyal cycle" engines use fuel tanks with check balls to help keep back fire pressure from reaching the fuel tank. Hope this helps,

  • nice!

can u give me a link to how a non compression engine works?

  • @animebsd They're fairly simple engines but didn't see a website with a nice diagram or pictures explaining how a conventional Lenoir non-compression engine cycle works. I'd try searching around in "Google Books" for info.
