  • Anime fans have become narrowed minded. Looking at Anime as "cool and action packed" instead of an art form. They shun Astro Boy and the likes because it does not keep up with their modern mindset. People should look at the past, you wouldn't have Todays Anime without Astro Boy. As You would not have Pixar and the like, without Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny.

  • Just finished volume 4 of the manga and I'm in love. Tezuka wasn't just a manga artist... he was a philosopher. He combined elements of absurdism & buddhism into a coherent, awesome philosophy. I can scan images and explain if you'd like. Anyways, Tezuka is definitely "The Godfather of Manga".

  • @germanchap all true, but its doing a disservice to only watch Tezuka stuff because its 'important' his work also still lives up strong and is just as entertaining as anything out today.

  • @djpraiseadelik Shaman King got fucking terrible. Like all modern shonen comics, started interesting, then just devolved into shallow, mindless fights, more reminiscent of pro wrestling than anything good.

  • I'm gonna weigh in on the newer manga and anime vs. Tezuka and the like debate. I love Tezuka's work and I also love Shaman King (best of the Shonen Jump manga imho). The way that the new manga is with its action and fast pace is a reflection of the times just like movies are more commonly action-driven and less story driven now in black and white pictures of the 30's-60's. The student doesn't have to be the master but the student must respect the master and learn from the master.

  • the quote from aint it cool news kinda sucks compared to the rest...

  • People who dislike this video, they will never get ever lasting life.

  • who the HELL would dislike this?!?!?!?!?

  • What a magnificent masterpiece... Osamu, your work has become a true legacy...

  • I am NOT saying a WORD about the man. Just a must buy.

  • @germanchap I quite agree with you!

First of all, it's called Death Note. Light is the main character's name. And just because it focuses on a antihero who does questionable things does not automatically make it amoral. It does not try to sugar-coat Light's actions as good or cool.

You could say, in some way, that Light is a modern (bishonen) version of Captain Nemo.

All I'm saying is that a manga/anime from modern times has as much meaning as 50s-80s manga/anime.
