Well, not being French by birth I can't speak for them, but as I said before, for having heard her sung quite a bit, I can only tell you that her range, didn't use to be small at all, although it is true that it started narrowing when she stopped training her voice classically.

About the voice I think the instrument is lovely, so we'll have to agree to disagree, but it does take all sorts to make a world!

  • rayangreene, maybe the timber of her voice is very moving for French people, that's why she has a huge fanbase, which she probably deserves, but I still consider her a very weak singer with an extraodinarily small range. (personal opinion)!

  • @rayangreene maybe you are right, but I still believe that if she had followed the opera path, she wouldn't be successful whatsoever, her opera voice (I actually listened her interpreting "Carmen") is very weak, amazingly bad breath control, I think she's much better as a pop singer. I'd like to underline that -generally speaking- if she lived in any other country of Europe (except for France, that is)she wouldn't be considered such an iconic singer with a great voice, not even close.

I tend to agree with you with regards to the high notes, but let us remember that before she launched herself into singing pop music she was trained classically and her range was larger (besides, she used to have beautiful notes throughout her range.. from top to bottom). I still think she does a great job here. I find the tone majestic and her rendition very moving. She also had great breath control then...
