Happy 4th of July! I'm playing the Star-Spangled Banner on bagpipes in my backyard. Had to start in the morning before it gets too hot (south Mississippi, you know). This performance is based on an arrangement by Steve Thrasher out of Georgia. Played on the Great Highland Bagpipes made by Gibson - model R110F with engraved nickel.

  • Aye great lad !

  • @JOHNNYFREEDOMdaREBEL Thank you. Its always a crowd pleaser.

  • Great job!!!

  • @nfogy Thanks!

  • I'm not sure why he can't play it. He's been a bagpiper since he was 8. 62 now. Maybe he was joshing me! LOl, He plays Gibson pipes & is a long friend of Jerry's!

  • @MrJgreig72 Regarding Gibson pipes, when I started out, I knew I was only going to buy one set of pipes. I asked my instructor if you only had one set what would it be, she said Gibsons. There is a guy in my home town (Ocean Springs, MS) that knows Jerry Gibson too. I wish I did. Thanks again for the nice comments.

  • @EylerC Gibson's factory's located very very close to my hometown. A while back I got to go on the tour of the facity, talk about a great experance, after being a bagpippers son my whole life there was so much I didn't even know.

  • Get off it's tail!

  • Yep, I just talked to him & that's just what he said! LOL

  • Yeppers, Jerry's an awesome guy! I've known him my whole life. If you ever come to Ohio (Cleveland area) I'm sure he'd give you a tour of his shop. I just got to go this yr. & after living w/ the bagpipes my whole life, there were things I didn't even know about them til that day!

  • @MrJgreig72 I'm sure he can play it well. Its not a hard tune because the phrases often repeat. He is probably meaning that the tune itself doesn't sound good on bagpipes. Most people attempt it in the key of A. When you do that, the scale of the pipes doesn't fit the tune. But Steve started out in the key of D and was able by jumping octaves to keep all the phrases intact.
