I'll agree with Bassets being super intelligent. My 12 week pup has learned sit, lay down, roll over, speak, and shake in a couple days times. She's pretty consistant too. Her name is Kona. She's amazing.

bassets are a friendly loving breed of dogs! I have one myslef, called Izzy. she is quite dumb though, but i love her millions and would miss her if she went ;)))

Basset hounds are NOT dumb! Mine (Droopy) knew sit, stay, shake, lay down, jump, kennel (get in the kennel), and speak (his personal favorite).
I think people tend to think that they're dumb because it is difficult to get their attention if they discover an interesting smell.

Yep, I think that's part of the reason...plus they only do things if they think they have really have a good reason (a treat!) because they don't care too much about kissing up to us like other breeds, lol. My dog now does every single trick she knows in a row without being asked when she smells us with a treat in our hand. It's so damn cute!

it'll learn...you just have to use a LOT of bribery and be consistent with giving treats every time you practice a new trick. Good luck! ;o)
