  • This technology has several advantages. It's relatively easy to add to existing engines, is very compact and more controllable than any other system out-there. It's much faster to react since it's is hydraulic, and based on ultra-high pressure injection technology of the Fiat PowerTrain group it developped in-house for it's diesel-engines. Due to this, it is not limited to lower RPM (Valvetronic) - or tied to a 2-step system (vvti, vtec, variocam plus) as the competing mechanisms.

  • This is great technology. I don't understand however why MultiAir is supposed to be better than valvetronic from BMW or the systems of Honda and Toyota. Fiat says their technology can actuate each cylinder individually but what is the advantage of changing the valve timing of one cylider compared to the neighboring ones? Anyone understands that benefit ?
