If a medical emergency happened in your office, would you be prepared? Today, our medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook and I showed the Evening News team how to use an automated external defibrillator. Trust me, they are a lot easier to use than they are to pronounce, and they can save a life.

Check out this video of our demo, and be sure to visit cbsnews.com for more information and links.

  • American Med Supply is giving away a free AED... All you have to do is enter the drawing, it's that easy. Plus, we are giving away a bunch of other great gifts and prizes all year long. Look up American Med Supply on YouTube for all the details. No purchase required, and it's free to sign up.

  • This is a great example of the step-by-step process to use a defibullator. It is so easy to understand.

  • shouldn't the fingers be interlocked for the cpr compressions?

  • No..It won't reduce the NUMBER of heart attacks, just the fatality rate of them.

  • lol. this cracks me up, so informative good to know but so many inside jokes were made when we watched this video in class

  • next time get an ER doctor...you would never use the regular pads on a child.

  • Great video! We have these devices at work and poolside where I was on vacation. I had no idea how to use it until your video. Awesome job demonstrating it! Thanks!

  • Hi Katie & Dr. LaPook!

You have preformed a great public health service by educating us about how to use the AED. AEDs are placed in many locations nowadays, but rarely do we get a chance to see close up how to use the AED, & see what's inside. The timely & proper use of the AED can truly save lives.

And BTW, looks like your CPR mannequin could be a fun date over the weekend, especially if you go for the quiet type.

Thank you Katie & Dr.LaPook for an excellent demonstration!
