A recent opinion piece on SFGATE.com (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/02/01/ED4C1BP3O5.DTL) continues the chorus of those who think that Realtors are grossly overcompensated. I am not sure why, because, as Jay Thompson explains (http://www.phoenixrealestateguy.com/how-much-do-real-estate-agents-make/), most are living well below the poverty level...30% actually lost money!
Maybe it is time that we changed the way Realtors get paid...here are some thoughts... Distributed by Tubemogul.
I am not surprised at all that people who are buying houses that they cannot afford are looking to cut costs by examining how much a real estate professional makes. Thanks for schooling the economic illiterates. My parents have put many homes up for sale in their 35 years of being a mortgage owner and they've never resented the real estate commission because they know that it takes a lot of work.

Christin, you are RIGHT ON! We spend hours and hours working for free and noone seems to appreciate us. The reason I believe the profession is looked upon this way is because almost anyone can go to a short 4 week course and become a Realtor. The criteria needs to be changed for becoming a Realtor. Then I think we'll see changes. As it stands now, it's just too easy to get a license to sell real estate. We with advanced degrees get shortchanged because of this.
