Optimistic (cover) - Radiohead

I've seen a number of vids with weird variations in the chords...I've not used tabs, just my ears, but as far as I know this is as accurate as you're going to find.*

*While the notes are indeed correct, this is a hybrid of Thom and Jonny's parts with a bit of Colin's bassline thrown in during the chorus and at the end for context's sake.

This might be a stupid question i havent been playing guitar for very long so my question is how do you know what chords to play? do u just have the chords memorized or is there a method of finding them? idk if that makes any sense but GREAT COVER AND THANKS.

Knowledge of standard chords didn't really help because this song has a lot of odd ones, but I'd been playing guitar long enough to be familiar with where different tones are on the fretboard. That, and I'd been listening to this song for years before I ever attempted to play it, so I had a rudimentary idea of how it went. If I couldn't figure something out, I'd listen to the chord in question over and over, concentrating on hearing and finding each note seperately, and then piece them together.

@NevermoreFan Also, one of the hardest things about guitar is that the same exact note can be played in many different places, so you've got to figure out which place makes the most sense in relation to the other notes you're playing. On the bright side, this piece relies heavily on open strings so many times I was only looking for two or three notes to play instead of a whole chord.
