On Veterans' Day, 2009, American Legion Post 36 of Des Plaines hosted a special opportunity to meet local veterans and hear their stories at the Des Plaines Public Library. The Des Plaines History Center also provided wonderful opportunities for children out of school that day to make patriotic crafts, try on historical uniforms from the armed forces, and learn more about the sacrifices made by veterans and today's troops. The Library provided materials for residents to write letters of gratitude to veterans and soldiers. Please enjoy these photos and video clips from the event, including a very moving closing ceremony in which all were reminded to keep POWs-MIA in mind and heart.
