GRAND CHUTE (WFRV) - A 46-year-old Grand Chute woman was riding her bike with her dog on a leash next to her when a pit bull attacked her dog.
The woman was approaching the intersection of W. Marquette Street and N. Whitney Drive when a 75-pound pit bull, without collar or tags, ran up and attacked her husky. She got off the bike and tried to separate the dogs. In the process, she sustained injuries to her hands.
While the Grand Chute Fire & Police Departments were en route, neighbors helped get the dogs separated, but not before the husky's ear and paw were bitten.
The woman was transported to Appleton Medical Center for treatment.
Channel 5 & WFRV.Com were told by a source in the Grand Chute area that the pit bull had attacked other dogs prior to this incident.
The pit bull, who was being watched by a Grand Chute couple in the owner's absence, was taken to the Fox Valley Humane shelter for quarantine. It is not known if the pit bull was properly vaccinated, as the dog sitters could not produce vaccination tags or documents.
They were cited for 'dog at large' violations and fined $87.
The dog's owner was contacted by phone, but was reportedly very uncooperative.
The incident remains under investigation.
