Timothy Burton Poem

Timothy Burton was a peculiar young boy,
He refused to conform, but was always quite coy.

His childhood was spent in Burbank, C.A,
Where his creativity flourished, needless to say.

Yet he felt lost and alone, as all outcasts would,
So he sought refuge in art, as much as he could.

His struggles in school left him low self-esteemed,
From the teacher's perspective, a dull child he seemed.

As a high school Grad, enrolled in the C.I.A,
(No, it wasn't the feds, perhaps I should say!)

Animation major,  creative flair shining through,
Though some may think his aesthetic  a tad' askew.

Then hired by Disney, he put on quite a display,
But artistic visions differed, to his  dismay.

Still their funds helped him out, in his personal pursuits,
Vincent, Hansel and Gretel and Frankenweenie too.

His first feature-length film -Pee Wees Big Adventure,
Then Beetlejuice with Keaton's hilarious dementia.

Then Warner Brothers hired him to direct their 'Batman',
He enjoyed this gig which won him many a fan.

Then came the boy, Edward, with those scissors for hands,
Reflection of self?  Echoing memories bland.

It was then that he met, a most talented guy,
And they clicked right away, Depp was also quite shy.

Next Batman Returns, with Keaton back in the black,
And Danny DeVito -the penguin, a real quack.

Creative freedom secured, relaxed and content,
At last true to himself, to the greatest extent.

A biography next, the legendary Ed Wood,
And Depp got in quick, signing as fast as he could.

Mars Attacks! Sleepy Hollow! Planet of the Apes!
Then arrived Helena, after whom he did traipse.

Now out of the blue emerged the biggest of fish,
Tale of a father and son, and finding one's niche.

Charlie Bucket was next, a Roald Dahl classic.
Johnny Depp and young Highmore were simply fantastic.

The Corpse then awoke and mistakes offers of marriage,
She'd dreamed of a wedding with beautiful carriage.

Demon Barber of Fleet Street comes home to avenge,
but instead he destroys his lost loves with revenge.

Tim has worked with Depp 10 decades, I hear tell,
Or so declared one Brit as on her tabloid sword she fell.

Now  in 2010 it's through the rabbit hole we fall,
Like Alice on adventures with Mad Hatter and all.

So my poem finishes, 'though  much more I could say,
But by then, like Corpse Bride you'd've begun to decay.

...

I'd originally planned to create a short claymation or theatrical piece much like Tim's short film, 'Vincent', my story would have revolved around my fascination with Tim Burton and his works, however, I ran out of time!

EDIT: I know, I forgot Nightmare! It being a significant film in his career I regret forgetting to mention it. :/

  • @sophiarrrrr

Thanks! :) It was a lot of fun to put together! I'm glad you enjoyed it, although there's much more one could add. ;)

  • Wow! This is really amazing! Somehow, I imagined someone, a Tim Burton fan, would write a poem about Tim Burton, much similar to Tim Burton's poetic ode to Vincent Price. I think this is a really great thing you did! Good work ;D

  • @nerdsman567 Haha, thanks :) I would have included a lot more but I had limited time! It would have been a little different had it been purely a tribute. :)

    'Vincent' is awesome eh? :)

  • Uhh ... What about THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

  • Very poetic, just fits the Tim Burton tradition. I like it. Burton's a guy I can truly relate to. I personally wish he would ressurect the Beetlejuice cartoon.

  • @mycolddeadeyes Thanks! :)
