This is a little app I made to show certain earthquakes in a manner I specify. So far, I only have 10 years of data loaded into it (there's a LOT of data in 10 years) from 1/1/1997 to 11/16/2007, and this video plays them in order from oldest to newest.

Audio Legend:
Low rumbling noise - my computer fan (this is my internal speaker (beep beep))
Most frequent beeping noise - Blue quakes
Occasional high pitch beep - White quakes
Low frequency long note - Yellow quake. You don't want to be around when a yellow quake occurs! Keep an eye on Indonesia around 2:50 and notice how active it gets after a yellow quake.

Red quakes make no noise, since there are so many of them. ;-)

Visual Legend:
Red Dots - Magnitude less than 6.0
Blue Squares - Magnitude 6.0 to 6.9
White Squares - Magnitude 7.0 to 8.4
Yellow Squares - Magnitude 8.5 and up

  • is false, where is the peru eartquake in 2007 was over 9

  • Sismo83, it must be the ones starting at around 3:48 or so. It is hard to tell exactly as this one does not have a date label. Also, btw, the quake you are talking about was only an 8.0, which would be a white square. My "Earthquakes as Music" video is better than this one.

  • Was the 2min 50 the 26/12/04 Tsunami ?

  • klucas1983, yes indeed. It is denoted by the big yellow square(s).

  • There should be 2 small red dots in mid-Michigan. We've had something like a 3.5 and 5.7 before believe it or not.
