Tom Paxton's best-known and most beloved song, here performed by the second troupe of The Kingston Trio, from their 1965 LP recording, "Something Else." This album was the KT's unsuccessful attempt to catch the folk-rock wave which was sweeping radio and pushing this once-dominant group out of the public eye. "Somethin' Else" featured a band of back-up musicians on electrified instruments, which accounts for the country-ish sound of this performance. "Somethin' Else" was the group's 24th album and the first not to appear on any charts at all; it has never been re-issued as a CD, though most of the tracks have appeared on other compilations. This cut deserved a better fate; the sincerity and lyrical skill of the vocals make it a high point on the record.

  • Thank`s for posting this song! From my p.o.w this was their best album! Can you post Parchment Farm also?

  • I always liked "Farm" and "Red River Shore" the most. I don't have them yet but may soon and will post when I do. Thanks for the comment!

  • Fantastic harmony.Great.

  • This is one of my preffered songs that send me back in time.

  • First time I heard this song was from Porter & Dolly. This version by the Kingston Trio is SO great. As always the harmony is top-notch. I've said this on other videos but, John's era is my favorite, he took them to another level that (IMO) they couldn't have done w/Dave.

  • One thing I came to love about the Kingston Trio was their choice of song material. Some of the best cuts they put on record were done right before they broke up. They used quite a few Tom Paxton songs because they knew a great writer when they heard one. Thanks for posting.
