Probably no other sea animal has captured our affection and attention like the dolphin. Its intelligence and athleticism has fascinated observers for years. Dolphins seem to exhibit a friendly willingness to co-operate with humans...something very rare in the wild animal kingdom.

"Porpoises rescue Dick Van Dyke" Nov 11, 2010:

We often hear tales of humans going the extra mile to rescue our animal friends, but during a recent surfing trip, legendary actor Dick Van Dyke had the tables turned and received some much needed help from a few wild creatures. Porpoises rescued Dick Van Dyke after he fell asleep on a surfboard and drifted out to sea. He awoke to find no sign of land. He thought he was as good as dead, but the friendly sea creatures pushed him back to shore.

There needs to be more funding to study dolphins. They're so alien from us and so intelligent.. it's fascinating..

But someone else had a point. Doesn't hurt to tell the dolphins we cant understand them. I mean if you told a human to jump through a hoop that was lying flat on the ground, they'd say "What are you talking about, there's no hoop? You mean this thingy on the ground? You stupid or something? I can't jump through that".

I know what you're thinking, but I'm going to turn a comments section about dolphins into aliens for a moment. It's almost like dolphins are from another planet. They think and communicate differently from us and we can't even begin to comprehend them. If extraterrestrials are real, studying dolphins could help us if we ever had to communicate with extraterrestrials.. We'd have the experience.. if they are real.

I did not mean it that way. Yes in a way we are apes but we did not evovle from the apes today. Many think we are exactly like apes-

Chimpanzees and Humans are more genetically similar than Chimpanzees are to Gorillas.

Does this mean Gorillas are not apes? No.

Does this mean Chimpanzees are not apes? No.

So why would this mean Humans are not apes? It doesn't.

Homo sapiens (humans) are a species of primate (in case you didn't know, includes monkeys, apes, and prosimians) and are classified in the Hominidae (great ape) family (Gorillas, Bonobos, Chimps, Humans, and Orangutans). We are literally apes, in every way.
