It asks viewers to gauge where their communities lie on the scale of democracy vs. despotism, and points out that key indicators are concentration of wealth and power, civil liberties and freedom of the press, and respect for others. Especially pertinent today.

@GrampaCrusty The problem persists when there are monopolies for services like the telephone/internet or water provisions, and these things are more or less needed to function 'normally' in society. Should the government legislate/prevent monopolization? Should itself provide the services (socialism)?

Strange that the latest comments here are all looking at "Socialism" as equating to the "Despotism" seen in the video. It seems like they've come here from GlennBeckistan.

But that wasn't the point of the video. Instead, we should look at our own communities, and see how they rate on these scales.

Respect: Are equal amounts of respect shown to people, no matter their economic situation?

Power: Do all people have access?

People need to think, not mindlessly repeat the latest Limbaugh rant.

Communism and Communist never gave a damn for workers or minorities... only compliant (usually temporary) politicos and party power players, because in this idealistic state it becomes essential to rise to the top. Historical models such as Stalin, Mao, and Fidel who made to the top of the power heap and spent the rest their careers murdering or imprisoning potential rivals. Socialist borrow from this collectivist redistribution sceem the neccessary class envy aspect to further their ambitions.
