@dpapaioannow You should be able to do that, but if that fails and you don't have a recovery disk you will have to torrent one and use your legitimate key.

@christopherve7alb my acer laptop didnt come with an OS disc the OS was allready preinstalled(vista ultimate 32 bit) and has 2 hdd's...i made a windows complete pc copy to an external hd...can i still put new hdd's on and transfer everything using F12?

Mine came with Vista 64, if I did that all I would have to use is the windows 7 upgrade (W7 not used yet) disk to use,no Vista 64 disk came with it,how would that work? Also what about drivers and so on, how would I find the right ones?

@DBSpy1 You could install the new HDD and install W7 directly onto that. As for drivers W7 has a great driver library but if you have some unsupported hardware just check the website for the manufacturer of your laptop

Question for you. If i install a new HDD on my laptop, my old hdd would have the OS--the pre-installed OS that came with the laptop when i bought it. Once the new HDD is installed, can i use the disks that came with the laptop to reinstall the OS? or do i need to buy a full version of the OS for the HDD?

Nope it's legal and easy to reinstall the OS using the restore discs that came with your computer, as long as you don't use the original OS with another computer. you just may need to re-activate windows over the phone.
