The City Dance Ensemble in Washington DC worked in collaboration with writers in the International Writing Program in Iowa City 2009 to interpret texts and choreograph a series of dances on the theme of Fall and Recovery. Kathy White, a New Zealand writer of fiction, non-fiction and plays for children and teens, wrote a poem called What I Don't Know at Nine, based on her witnessing a violent attack on her 11-year old friend. The poem was the first she has written since she was at school. You don't hear most of the poem in this video but you do get to see the dance that resulted from this writing experiment during the Fall Residency of the IWP 2009. Thanks to dancers Jason Garcia Ignacio and Kathryn Pilkington. Thanks also to Alice Pung of Melbourne, Australia for capturing the video on her camera.
Really super good. (:
