I used about 3 cans of nitrocellulose lacquer from ReRanch.com and a can of Deft nitro lacquer from the painting supplies section. I find that Deft takes a little bit longer to cure and remains kinda soft. In Part 16 where I do all the final sanding and polishing, the back side of the guitar (the only place where I used Deft) had some cloth prints on it after I laid it on a t-shirt for a long time. Lesson learned: Deft needs twice as much time to cure than lacquer from ReRanch.

  • Why didn't you buff it to get that super high gloss shine? From what I understand, to get the super high gloss, you use a compound and an electric buffer to take a small layer of clearcoat off to get that super smooth look. On the close-ups of your guitar, the finish still looked spray painted.

  • @slckestbeast

uhm... hello. This video shows clearcoating only, not polishing yet. Nowhere in this video did I mention I was done with the finish.

  • Don't look bad at all. Nice job. I'd like to try to build my own Strat. The only thing I didn't like about this video was that metal music. I can't stand it but if you like it thats all that matters.

  • @MrNocaster1

dude, I'm not a fan of it either, but at least I'm given free permission from the band managers themselves which will allow me to monetize my videos. if you dont like the music, just mute it.

  • @DUY1337GUITAR No need to be a dick to the dude, he was also complimenting your work. But he does have a point, this music does sound like shit. If you're not a fan of it either then DONT USE IT.

  • @tharrington11

I'm being a dick? I think you're reading my comment the wrong way; I'm just plainly giving my thoughts. Do you see any personal attacks from my response? Like I said, I have the music because I'm given the permission to monetize the video for FREE. Also, I don't think you have the authority to say what I should or should not do with my videos in the first place, even if you don't like the music. To my surprise, there are quite a few people who request the songs from me.

  • @DUY1337GUITAR the guitar looks awesome! I want to airbrush my westone, but how long will the coating and finishing process take? and what products do I need to get for the clear coat and high gloss?

  • why did your veneer get messed up where you pointed it out?

  • Why not sand this part to level before you start the whole procedure?

  • not bad for a skin over a guitar . atleast it looks like its just a skin ... ? but your close up pics look pretty rough like on the headstock the tear out from the holes etc .. i like the grain tho . its a pretty grain

  • @LesPaul209 Bro, don't ever sand colour coats unless you have some bugs stuck in it. The clear coat melts on top of it, you'll get rid of all the orange peel when you sand the clear flat. Removes all risks of uneven colour when you do it this way

  • so was the orange peel on the color coat or was the clear doing that? I think i have a slight orange peel on my color coat but i was told the clear will smooth it out.

  • You still had a lot of orange peel when finished
