I feel really sorry for Hung. My guess is that he has some kind of mental deficit that prevents him from sensing what others really think. He certainly has hints of the "Mongoloid" features that characterizes Down's Syndrome. Hung seems to genuinely think that he has talent, when in fact, his management team and record company probably see him as a joke. That was probably also the case when he won his dorm's talent contest at UC Berkeley. The victory encouraged him to try Idol, and the rest is history.

While the exploitation is sad, his choice of songs may be sadder. Both She Bang and Achy Breaky Heart are arguably love songs, and one wonders what's going on inside Hung's heart.

Of course, but what does that have to do with William Hung? He's said in multiple interviews that he cares what listeners think. Why else do you think he's taking voice lessons? Why do you think he entered the dorm contest and American Idol?  If you don't care what people think, why go to a JUDGED event? Why not just sing for the fun of it in thr shower or street corner?

@AskMeForMoreInfo I would guess autism may be what's keeping him from sensing other's emotions towards him. For him to have majored in civil engineering sounds to me that he must fall somewhere in autism spectrum, many austistic individuals are trully gifted.

Honestly, he doesn't sound terrible. He just sounds alright to me. Not the best but not terrible either 'cause if you listen closely, he can actually carry a decent tune (and I don't say this very loosely to these American Idol Rejects). But you can tell that he did the best he could at it.
