Philadelphia-based Minas performs their original tune "Sinal Verde" at the CD release of "In Rio"

Minas is Orlando Haddad (guitar) and Patricia King (piano) with Cyro Baptista (percussion), Ron Kerber (flute), David Finck (bass) and Rogério Bocatto (drums). Sinal Verde is one of their oldest tunes, released on vinyl in 1978 in Brazil (Num Dia Azul).

  • Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful!

Loved the group, the beat, and the music. . . jenny

Do they have a CD, I hope?

  • Hey Jenny, this video is from the CD release of their latest, "In Rio". They have a few others, all on the site at minasmusic-dot-com -a few other videos too.

  • Thank you Notvalid; I am definitely going to buy the In Rio album. I love all Spanish music, and I really like what they do with Sinal Verde. Have you ever heard of a group, Forro For All? They are based in NYC, but come from somewhere in northern Brazil. . . jenny

  • Actually yes, I saw Forro For All about 6 weeks ago at Festival Internationale de Louisiane in Lafayette. Good stuff.

Glad you liked Minas- and I'm sure you know it's Portuguese, not Spanish ;-) Minas writes their originals in both Portuguese and English.

  • Loved this one...very jazzy! I went to high school with Patricia so this group is very near and dear to my heart. I am so pleased they are still making beautiful music together.

  • Im friens with David Finck's son, Henry Finck

  • After I mentioned Forro, I played my album, and thought you probably would NOT like it; not sophiticated like Minas! But I am totally surprised that you even recognized the name.

As far as Minas is concerned, no I did NOT know the group was Portuguese; this track is SUNG, but not using words, so I had no way of knowing. And I don't really recognize the difference between the music of the two countries (ouch!!). . . jenny
