Here is a quick test of the Digital Voice Recorder Zoom H2N. The first test was done with the the Azden WMS lapel mic hooked into the H2N. The second test was recorded directly into the device. I personally like better the lapel setup because it captures more what its close to it while the H2N picks up more ambience noise. Said that in some situations is fine to use the digital recorder as a mic or even a shoot gun mic for instance in a quite environment where there is not a lot of background noise. But if you are out and about the lapel mic hooked into the device is certainly a better choice for you.

  • Sorry if this is a "newbie" question, but I just purchased a Zoom H2N, and when I'm shooting, cars are driving by and picked up. So I'm looking at lavalier mics. Not sure what is good to purchase? Will these plug directly into my Zoom, or is there somewhere else to plug them into? Really new to all this, so any guidance is appreciated. Thanks again, great tips.

  • @loanmarketing2 ABSOLUTELY! I use the Sennheiser ME2 plugged into the H2n and it works wonderfully. You just need to clap at the beginning to sync in post which takes literally 10 sec or so. I highly recommend the sennheiser ME2 $90 or if you wanna drop the cash go for the Rode Lavalier mic $250.

  • You got the settings all messed up. XY is for stereo recording, like for a concert or instrament recording. MS is for unidirectional. So for this video you should have used MS setting. 2Channel records from both XY and MS, so it pics up the whole room, and you can set how sensitive each mic is, but it records it into a mixdown of 2 channel audio. 4 Channel uses both XY and MS but doesn't mix it down, instead it just saves 4 channels of audio, which comes out as two files each in stereo.

  • @nxil Cool! Thanks for clearing things up! What do you think would be the best settings to use a lavalier mic hooked into the H2n? I've tried using the MS but doesn't allow me to use an extern mic so I'm trying to figure this out.

    Anyways tks for your comment!

  • Nice work Johnny! I agree--the lavalier will be better in cases where you're outside or lots of noise around. The mics on the H2n seem to have more low-end response which adds a little warmth--probably best in controlled environments.

  • @curtisjudd Indeed Curtis! It's always really nice see your comments around here!

  • Again a nonsense review! What is wrong with people doing test??? Simply shocking.

  • @johnnybrazil01 When you plug in an external mic it automatically uses the XY side for the lavalier mic. What you can do is use the lavalier on the XY side and set it to 2Channel to get a mix of both the lavalier and the MS side. I'm about to try some tests with a regular XLR mic hooked into the input using the H2n to a 2 person podcast or interview. The only thing I worry about is the audio not being consistent between the two mics.

  • @LuizGustavoVlog Opa Luiz, tudo bem? Entao nao sei se tem no Brasil, mas o website B&H photo entrega no Brasil. O zoom H1 tb em muito bom e custa a metade do preco.
