  • Not bad for a car with Mk2 Golf under pinnings. l read somewhere that it was something like 80% stronger than a Mk2 which will account for it being a fat old Golf with only simmering performance in GTi form.

  • @eltfell Yeah, I remember those tests. Back in the day where those methods were a filter for many old cars. Also, I said the Golf III and IV were the best for me because, in the case of the third, it became a rapidly popular sensation, and it had nice interior room, setting the standard for compact cars at the time. And in the case of the fourth Golf, because it was SO upmarket and featured many parts shared with Audi, making it superb. As for the Jettas, for me the II was the best one.

  • @JackBandicootsBunker I once had a Golf II, my Mother the saloon versions Jetta I and Jetta II. The I and II had less in common as the II and III: Totally different body structure, totally different suspension parts (same principle, though). The III originally was just a modernized II, but it had to be reinforced before it hit the market, because auto motor und sport began to crash test cars (also II, it was as good as a Nissan Maxima) 50 % offset and at a speed of 55 km/h.

  • @eltfell The Golf II was just a revision of the first, or at least I felt that. Even the CitiGolf from RSA felt better than the Golf II, and it was a revamped Golf I. Of course, it was a great car. The GTi and the RALLYE versions were just outstanding. But the marketing wasn't up to what the product was, specially in the US, the safety as you said wasn't the best out there, and the price was steep. But it was maybe the best you could get: the Escort was the close you'd get to a Golf

  • @JackBandicootsBunker Well, the Golf II wasn't the best in crash safety, I have to admit.

  • @JackBandicootsBunker The best Golf was the Golf II.

  • @Olingelo OUCH!! and what is compartement syndrome

  • @FalenGood Then you either judge the car by simply it being a Ford or you're quite a comformist person, unfortunately.

  • @JackBandicootsBunker I love Golf 6 , Ford Focus is a shit
