(A stereo re-release of the 11/27/2007 posting):
In honor and celebration of Jimi on his 65th Birthday, this is an unrehearsed first take (and last to date) performance recorded live at The Crossroads, Fairfax, VA on 11/01/1997.

Brien Thompson - Fender Stratocaster and vocals
Eddie Grey - Fender Hendrix Tribute Stratocaster - rhythm and lead
Marty Green - "Mitch Mitchell" drums
Jim McCarthy - "Noel" bass

Note: With no discussion on any aspect of playing this song beforehand, the band just played and this is how it happened... and the drummer just happened to want to record the night, thankfully!
Unfortunately the "mics were all screwed up..." so what is predominate is my guitar, bass, and drums with the vocal and second guitar in the background bleed.

A personal note: I have rarely played this song live and on this take it was 4 years since the last time I played it as a part of a four song, unrehearsed 3-piece set at an open stage blues jam featuring the best players of the DC area at the time...with me singing and playing, I guarantee you that it was smokin' (several comments to that afterwards)...

  • Wow, never heard anyone cover Bold As Love before, Sounds perfect with the exception of the too low vocals. But your lead was magnificent. This is definitely a gig I wish I went to. Bravo!

  • As I said it before, I love the way that Jimi had to turn rythm guitar to lead guitar!

And you do that very well too, Eddie ;)

  • i just want to let you know. i thought i was listening to hendrix until like 4 minutes into it. great job dude!

  • Eddie,

Sounds great! And really amazing being unrehearsed!

    Steve

  • fantastic cover exciting drum solos

  • Yes, fabulous, indeed!

  • Fabulous job Eddie!

  • Great Eddie!! :)

  • One of my favourites by Mr. Hendrix. I can barely hear the vocals. Did you do a sound check before recording this? (Sounds like the mikes overloaded.)

  • fn awesome
