Introduction for 'one family'
In February 2010, Burma Issues conducted a field trip inside Karen State to raise internally displaced persons' (IDPs) awareness of the upcoming elections. While they were watching a video, the township where the IDPs were staying was attacked by the Burmese army. They had to flee into the jungle and our cameraman decided to follow.
He became particularly interested in one family -- a grandmother, 2 parents and 4 young children -- who have endured permanent displacement for 3 generations. For 4 months he became deeply involved with them and managed to film an intimate portrait of their daily struggles. He then returned after a period of time to assess if their lives had improved. They hadn't.
As the family had to leave all of their possessions behind their life is now a cyclical nightmare. Every time they manage to build a hut for shelter, or manage to plant a basic crop, they have to flee from violence. Soldiers and landmines ensure that returning is out of the question. They manage to keep on building new shelters but never manage to make a home.
Although shot in eastern Burma, this video highlights the plight of the countless millions of IDPs across the country who have to contend with extreme violence, food shortages and a lack of access to health care and education.

  • Thx.. for uploading the video ..God bless my Karen people.... this is a sad video .. my goal is to pray for them everyday...cause God in Heaven is the only god we can ask for help

  • Absolutely.

  • @ unitedstateofamerful

You are boring me ! I am awfully sad every day about whats going on in Irak too - I have been living one year in Bagdhad, long time ago.

So yess you can add : Free Irak from the Americans !

  • @RenataSothy Oh really? Before you used free Burma, and now you adding free Tibet, how about free Iraq and others?

  • @unitedstateofamerful

Refugees are NOT FREE except some of them. They can be arrested any time for ... monay.

Don't walk to go on dabating with you.

FREE BURMA & FREE TIBET !

  • @RenataSothy Wow, come on. Hehe, i talk about your word FREE, i didn't talk about refugee na. Hehe

  • @unitedstateofamerful

I know what I mean by FREE - I have been to Burma, a short (individual) travel. I spent 2 months this year and one month last year with Burmese refugees in Thailand. I saw them arrested bu police. I met former political prisoners.

Don't juge me, you don't know me. My blablabla isn't bla bla.

I am NOT American and proud of it.

  • Without ethnics E-Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y, there will never be a FREEDOM.

Here the word FREE. Example, you go to store and buy 100 dollars bicycle, you

didn't pay and have to pay, they give you for free.

So the main meaning of FREE is without money and blah blah blah blah.

  • @RenataSothy Oh really? So, what do you mean by free. I think your sentence must be "Burma must be FREEDOM now'' or blah blah blah. I think in American English, free means no tax,no payment, and no no no no expensive stuffs.Free and Freedom didn't have the same meaning in America. Believe it or not, asking super American English speaker...What kind of English Burma must be Free now?'' Oh gosh, just add DOM after FREE. Oh ,how about the EQUALITY? Where?

  • Burma must be FREE now ! What is the world waiting for ?
