Produced by: Leonard and Phil Chess
Released: 1948 on Chess

For the first single ever on Chess Records, Waters reworked Mississippi bluesman Robert Petway's "Catfish Blues" into a spare, spooky track he named "Rollin' Stone." "We wouldn't do it exactly like those older fellows," Waters said. "We put the beat with it, put a little drive to it." The Rolling Stones took their name from the title, as did, in part, this magazine; Bob Dylan tipped his hat with "Like a Rolling Stone." muddy waters

  • haha ...try singing cajun songs or something instead

  • @busessuck1 JAJAJAJAJAJA ... YES, I ALREADY THOUGHT ¡

  • I never like to trash peoples playing or singing (especially if they are lovers of the lost art of blues) but I saw this video linked from a page showing the lyrics of this song. Many people have seen that same link and for some, THIS may be their first experience with this song....the playing is bad...the voice is bad. I hope people who could possibly form a love for the blues aren't put off from this version. Sorry if I offend fabriblues

  • @PierreMoore i never link any song, i just download in youtube , i can`t control the links of the videos ,the tittle is clear : performed by fabriblues , you don`t offend me , is just another comment , they are a lot of people doing blues versions , i don`t think the blues is a lost art, whether this or another of my songs can help the blues keep on living, will have accomplished my goal

  • hear the "humble pie" version my dear

  • @morrizadoniz simply amazing ,i don`t know this band , thanks ¡

  • You released this in 1948? Even though Muddy first recorded it in 1950? Who is fabriblues? What does the Chess single have to with this "video"? What the heck?

  • @fabriblues Dude, you can seriously play, this is one great song

If you ever come up to Canada, mainly Victoria, I'll buy you a beer buddy, great stuff!

  • This is how rock N roll was born. White Elvis would have been lost without this shit.

  • SO GOOD.....

  • Sounds pretty hot to me

  • holy shit this is AMAAZING!!! blues is all about feeling... and all i hear from this is pure unadulterated emotion! i love this, and i know why jimi liked it too!

  • If anyone likes the blues like this, listen to the Mississippi Delta blues
