My favorite era of Jethro Tull includes the CDS: - This Was, 1968 - Stand Up, 1969 - Benefit, 1970 - Aqualung, 1971 - Living in the Past, 1972 - Thick as a Brick, 1972 - A Passion Play, 1973 - Warchild, 1974 - Minstrel in the Gallery, 1975 - Too Old to Rock n Roll, Too Young to Die, 1976 - Songs From the Wood
If you are new to Jethro Tull and have enjoyed watching all the progressive rock clips that you see on youtube I suggest that you go out and buy these CDs. They are from Jethro Tull's prime and I think you would enjoy them.

Can I clear one thing up - with respects to John Glascock's family - a quote from the official JT site
John Glascock, Jethro Tull's third bass player, was the first member of Jethro Tull to have had a recording career that didn't start with Ian Anderson. He was with the band for only four years (1975-1979), before he died suddenly at the age of twenty eight from complications stemming from a congenital heart defect.
I've seen the band about 10 times since 1977. The last time I saw them was four years ago, with virtually the entire band (Martin Barre, John Glasscock etc.) They were as good in 2005 as in 1977. Consumate entertainers, the tightest band that I have ever seen live.
This seems to be taken from a Finnish TV broadcast (the YLE logo in the upper right corner). I remember having a most tremendous hangover when first saw this on TV about two years ago. After seeing this show my hangover was gone, all of a sudden : )
