I watched this remake recently and it doesn't hold up to the original for me. I watched the original as a kid (I'm still only 16 now and love Johnny Depp) but the original just seems more magical. I think it's because I know they didn't have the special effects of today and they did brilliantly with what they had. Plus I prefer the old grandad and Willy Wonka himself in the old ones, as well as the wonderful songs.

I totally agree with you the original was better. I mean to me it was more heart warming if you know what I mean this one was too cold. And I really didn't like the music in this remake. Some people may argue that the remake is better because it followed the book more. Well I read the book and it does follow it more however I still like the original movie better than the remake.

Johnny Depp looks like MJ here...;)
