Politicians and bureaucrats around the province must brace themselves whenever André Marin opens his mouth. The outspoken Ontario ombudsman pulls no punches when it comes to government red tape, indifference and incompetence.

In the last year alone, Marin has shone a bright light on security lapses in provincial lotteries, unconscionable delays in processing applications for disability benefits and the heartless treatment of victims of crime by the provincial body set up to compensate them. He invariably delivers his withering findings in eloquent language that forces Queen's Park to sit up, take notice and do the right thing.
