BOSTON -- With the Stanley Cup serving as the special guest on the pitcher's mound during the ceremonial first pitch Sunday and a Bruins goal-scoring horn sounding off for each scoring play, the Red Sox blew away the Brewers, 12-3, to take the interleague series.

Tim Wakefield (4-2) allowed just three runs on three hits over eight stellar innings to notch his 183rd win with the Red Sox and 196th of his career and was supported by an early offensive explosion.

The Red Sox sent 11 batters to the plate in the first, scoring six times off Brewers ace Yovani Gallardo to put the game out of reach. The big play of the inning was Gallardo dropping a toss from Prince Fielder that would've retired Adrian Gonzalez at first. The next batter - Kevin Youkilis - smashed his 11th homer of the season over the Green Monster, a three-run blow that put the Red Sox up 4-0. Jacoby Ellsbury had both of his hits on the day in the six-run first while Dustin Pedroia went 3-for-4 for the Red Sox, who moved back to 15 games over .500 at 43-28, matching their season-high.

The 2011 Stanley Cup champ Bruins were honored before the game with a 10-minute ceremony that included a procession of four duck boats around the warning track of Fenway, similar to the one enjoyed by the 2008 NBA champion Celtics. The ceremony concluded with the Stanley Cup on the pitching rubber as the multitude of Bruins players threw simulataneous first pitches to the Red Sox, who were lineup from dugout to dugout behind home plate.
