Upgrade the RAM. I've found that 7 does really need 1GB of RAM to work properly. Any less and it can get unstable, that's what I've found. Your Athlon XP CPU is plenty powerful enough, However I'm sure your Nvidia FX5200 wont support Aero. It will work in basic mode just fine.

I've actually run Win7 on a Acer One netbook with 512MB, while it worked, I did find it rather unstable and would BSOD on occasions. The same netbook would run XP SP3 and Ubuntu Linux totally reliably. MS do specify a minimum of 1GB to run 7, so one should take heed of that.

Running 7 on a Sony Vaio P UMPC with Atom CPU and 2GB it flies, and is totally reliable.

Uh install time depends more so on optical drive speed and hdd write speed, mentioning the cpu and memory capacity when saying the time was pretty useless.
