Over 70 guests, many dressed in authentic period costumes, enjoyed an exceptionally good time on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the American Modernism Sneak Peek party hosted by Friends of Kresge Art Museum. Entertainment was diverse as guests were treated to silent movies on the big screen, picture-taking with Charlie Chaplain and a stunning flapper (who looked like she was literally transported from the 1920s!), and beer and wine in a jazz and smoke-filled speakeasy. At the door, ladies received pearl bead necklaces and men red poppy boutonnières. Patti Lamm and Sheldon Newhouse, dance instructors extraordinaire, were the hit of the evening! The North Gallery, where a portion of the American Modernism exhibition is displayed, served as their dance floor. The Lindy Hop and Charleston just might see resurgence in East Lansing!
