The US Senate has approved legislation aimed at averting the "fiscal cliff" by stopping most tax hikes and across-the-board spending cuts that were due to begin with the new year.

The deal was approved early on Tuesday, about two hours after the midnight deadline at which the automatic tax hikes and spending cuts came into effect.

Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports from Washington DC.

Are you angry that they have all the power and don't play fair?

Did you really expect anything different?

Okay come on. If you are half as educated as I think you are, you must know by now that the 'Obama Phone' nonsense is a rumor. Their is a law to let low income customers have access to basic telephone service, but the free Obama cellphone is a lie. Forbes and NBCNews did an article discrediting all the crap about the Obama phone, you should read them. Hope you will since I saw the video you recommended to me :)

Bottom line, Obama is fine with taxing the rich more but not fine with taxing himself and by that I mean lowering his own spending agenda. It's bullshit.

Obama just loves to spend money! He is not what we need right now. We need a true business man. A numbers guy. Not a dreamer.

Obama's school plan is an entirely different topic but another waste. Not the idea, the execution. I'm in school now a junior in college. These kids are taking the financial aid which is 5000 and walking away after they get paid. I PERSONALLY SEE THIS EVERY SEMESTER. There needs to be stricter rules. Basically they are giving 5000 a year to each kid only to have them walk away as soon as that check is cut.
