The scene from RocknRolla where Johnny Quid(Toby Kebbell) says what are in fact the cigarettes

Here it is the whole speach :

Johnny Quid: You see that pack of Virginia killing sticks on the end of the piano?
Pete: Yes.
Johnny Quid: All you need to know about life is retained in those four walls. You will notice that one of your personalities is seduced by the illusions of grandeur - the gold packet of king size with a regal insignia, an attractive implication towards grandeur and wealth, the subtle suggestion that cigarettes are indeed your royal and loyal friends, and that, Pete, is a lie.
Johnny Quid: Your other personality is trying to draw your attention to the flip side of the discussion, written in boring bold black and white, it's a statement that these neat little soldiers of death and in fact trying to kill you and that, Pete, is the truth.
Johnny Quid: Oh, beauty is a beguiling call to death and i'm addicted to the sweet pitch of its siren.
Johnny Quid: That that starts sweet ends bitter, and that which starts bitter ends sweet.
Johnny Quid: That is why you and i love the drugs and that is also why I cannot give that painting back. now please, pass me a light.

  • I didn't start smoke cigarettes until I saw this movie.

  • Lenny was the 1 dislike.

  • *Speech

  • film no where near as good as lock stock and snatch but this scene reverberates more than any scene from those two films ever could, well done guy ritchie, well done

  • i'm so fucking addicted to rocknrolla and to this scene, fucking awesome

  • Oh this is life how we love & live it

  • given up smoking for two years and still miss it. Once a smoker always a smoker

  • @Bers8894 True. Only someone who smokes would get his meaning, and it's actually really deep.

  • Toby is very talented. :)

  • @Bers8894 I think you have not right. IF you have any addiction you can understand that, it is an example for the cigarett smokers. But quid is a crack user too.

  • @CGLefty15 Its the comparison between the relationship of cigarettes and their addicts to the relationship between Uri & Lenny.

  • It can't be exclusivly about cigarettes otherwise he wouldn't say drugs at the end.... if he said drug then you could state it's about cigarettes.

  • Few movies have such a deep scene of understanding such as this. This is what it is all about. And he's dead on. All that starts sweet ends bitter, and all that starts bitter ends sweet. If you don't smoke, you will never understand what this really truly means.

  • This made me want a cigarette like nothing else ever has.

  • I love the piano music, but what the hell is he talking about the whole time...? I couldn't understand the first time I saw the movie...
