It can't be exclusivly about cigarettes otherwise he wouldn't say drugs at the end.... if he said drug then you could state it's about cigarettes.

Few movies have such a deep scene of understanding such as this. This is what it is all about. And he's dead on. All that starts sweet ends bitter, and all that starts bitter ends sweet. If you don't smoke, you will never understand what this really truly means.
