Salat-ul-Kusuf/Kusoof/Khusuf/Qusuf is a two rakaah Sunnah prayer performed during Solar/Lunar eclipses. The sun and moon are two of the signs of Allah. By means of lunar and solar eclipses, Allah reminds His slaves of the Day of Resurrection, the Day on which their light will disappear.

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"So, when the sight shall be dazed.
And the moon will be eclipsed.
And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light)"
[Al-Quran: Surah Al-Qiyamah[75th] Verses 7-9)

Narrated Hadrat Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba (may Allah be pleased with him): "The sun eclipsed in the life-time of Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) on the day when (his son) Ibrahim died. So the people said that the sun had eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim. Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of someone. When you see the eclipse, pray and invoke Allah."

i am from south africa... realy we dont practice this sunnah.. each one of us praysit at home... i wish if i were in the haram to practice this sunnah.......... this deen begun as strange and will go back so.. subhaana ALLAH

it is practical anywhere... during solar/lunar eclipse you can pray two rak'at, as an individual, it is permissible though salatu khusuf is prayed in congregation. check details on

Subhanallah, this sunnah is only practiced in Haramaain & Arab not in other parts of the world specially in India and Pakistan. It means the real Ahle Sunnat are in Arabs. Allahu Akbar. Jazakallah for sharing this sunnah first time on youtube
