Historically the dutch and other european nations faired better: they called it colonialism. they chose a side and wiped the other side out. then when that side was the only one left they replaced the heads, rights and civil liberties never got in the way

We don't seem to mind having 700+ military bases all over the world. Why should we mind about Gitmo? There are plenty of secret bases where far worse things take place, I'm sure.

Well, using that ideology, I suppose anyone who is anti-American should be considered an enemy, even though America allows people to be anti-American and still be American citizens. If we can't afford the same rights we expect to have to our enemy, then we're no better than the enemy himself. Let's just go blow up all their planes with shoe bombs. And on War Criminals, we harbor our own war criminals and we don't bring them to justice. Rationalize that.
